Welcome to Wasatch Academy
A Letter from the Head of School
One hundred and thirty-one years ago, a Presbyterian minister,
Duncan McMillan, founded a school he named Wasatch Academy
after the Wasatch Mountains that rise from the valley floor
just east of the campus. His motivation for matching the
name of the school with the surrounding mountains was to
affirm a wish that the school endure like these mountains.
Our ability to prepare young people over the many decades
for life-long success can be attributed in no small measure
to the intrepid efforts of our founder in establishing Wasatch
Academy.
Today, Wasatch Academy builds upon its strong legacy by providing a dynamic balance of rigorous academic studies with an unusual variety of opportunities in athletics, community service, cultural enrichment, leadership training, and outdoor education. With the extraordinary advances in instructional and communication technologies, our students may easily access information on a global scale while residing in a most spectacular geographic setting. As a result, this unique environment attracts students and faculty eager to engage in our task of educating world citizens.
Given all the elements contributing to the vitality of Wasatch Academy as a college preparatory boarding school, our students readily develop confidence, curiosity and compassion. These personal attributes form a basis from which Wasatch Academy graduates venture forward prepared to successfully meet the demands of a swiftly changing world. I welcome you to experience a learning community which uniquely challenges and nurtures each student to fulfill their promise.
